A six-week {online in real time} workshop with Serena Roschman.
In the era of "content creation," creative work is often framed as production — something you're good at, something worth showing. But creativity has always been something else too. A contemplative practice. A way of paying attention. For some, a connection to the mystical.
In this six-week series, we’ll explore creativity as a contemplative practice and an antidote to a world that encourages constant consumption.
Each week, you’ll read a short section from The Book of Alchemy by Suleika Jaoud to help inspire unfettered creativity.
Alongside our Sundays, we'll each keep a small daily creative practice — five to fifteen minutes, whatever form it takes. A few lines in a notebook. Five minutes of knitting. A doodle in the margin of something else. A voice memo in the car. It doesn't need to be good, or finished, or shown to anyone. It's the practice, not the product.
On Sundays we gather to discuss what’s come up. We'll open with a discussion of the essay and the week’s creative practice, drawing in contemplative philosophy as it makes sense.
From there we move: somatic practice with journaling woven through. We’ll close with a restorative practice to help the week’s content settle and steep.
No experience needed, in any particular mode of creative expression or on the mat. Absolutely no need to think of yourself as a “creative person.” No sharing of your creative work will be required.
